I typically book months in advance for weddings on a Saturday. But this past January I was sitting around on a Wednesday and I get a call,
“Are you available for a wedding on Saturday?”
“Which Saturday,” I ask naively ask.
“This Saturday. We just decided to get married on top of a cliff in Malibu”
“Uhhhhh, Yeah I’m open. What is the venue?”
“Not sure yet. I think we’re just going to find a bluff overlooking the ocean and do it there”
“I’m pretty sure you need a permit to do that…” I say.
“Na, we’ll just jump out of our cars and go get married.”
I love it. Guerrilla wedding! No permits, no permission, no trespassing, no worries!
So there’s a trail in Malibu on Point Dume which loops around the cliff with magnificent views of the ocean. There are literally 7 parking spots on this road in a residential area. And they decided to do this on a warm January Saturday afternoon. They ended up getting permission to park in some guys front yard and then we rushed over there as a group, bride walked in, got married, kissed and then walked around for a bit getting different portraits. They asked if we could head down to the beach for some other photos of just them, and since it was a fantastically clear day, absolutely.
Romantic, spontaneous, slightly illegal and perfect. My kind of wedding. Congrats Natascha and Aram!
And this was all done in 2 hours from the time I showed up. AND no one got any parking tickets. Everyone wins. I love it when a plan comes together.
Beautiful, simple, and done!
Super sweets. Great story. That’s how you do it!
